Japan's Banking Giants Join Anthropic-NEC Alliance to Build AI Security Shield

- Major Japanese banks, brokerages and insurers will join a framework built by Anthropic and NEC
- Powerful AI has made financial-system security an urgent industry-wide issue
- The model shifts AI defense from individual investment to collective industry action
Japan's financial sector is doing something Taiwan's should study: top banks, brokerages and insurers are collectively joining a framework built by Anthropic and NEC to fight AI-era security threats with AI. Generative AI has collapsed the cost of phishing, deepfake fraud and automated attacks, while defense requires AI-driven anomaly detection that no single institution can affordably build alone. The solution is industry joint defense: Anthropic supplies model capability, NEC handles integration and localization, and institutions share threat intelligence. Three angles stand out: a top US AI lab entering Japanese finance through a local integrator is a sovereignty-meets-trust compromise deeper than selling APIs; the framework doubles as the industry's answer to the FSA's security push; and NEC advances its transformation into financial AI infrastructure. Taiwan faces the same AI fraud wave with banks still fighting solo - if Japan's model works, it becomes Asia's reference architecture.
